I am finally back home from surgery on my left hip. I got back home last Friday around 2:30 pm The time I spent in hospital seemed to go very fast. Basically I got up in the morning around seven a.m. washed up at the side of the bed. Around 8 a.m. we had to do our physio, about 30 minutes . Then it was time to rest about 30 minutes and then get ready for breakfast. After breakfast it was time to rest up for lunch, around 11:30 a.m. we went for lunch had a good visit with our other hip & knee patients.
After lunch we had a quick rest and it was time to have afternoon physio, 30 minutes later it was time for a nice long rest. Then it was time for supper, more time to visit with the friends we have made in hospital. Around seven p.m. it was time to wash up for the evening and having a good night sleep. Everyday I noticed that I was getting stronger, it is funny how quickly we weaken from the injuries, when we go in for surgery. I was glad that I did some weight lifting 2 months before surgery until I went in . Other wise I would have had way more problems, moving around in bed and from stretcher to bed. In physio they tested me to see if I was able to do stairs, well with all the workout I did at home, I was able to do stairs with flying colors. Well I am so glad that I am home and getting stronger all the time. I thought that I would have more pain from my hip but thank God, the only pain so far is from the large cut that was made to get at my hip bones. I am still on some heavy duty pain meds, duing the day I only use half of what I need at night. They will soon be gone and I will have to do with some light pain meds. I hope that soon I will not need and pain meds at all. Enough for now. I will talk with all of you later. Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteGood you prepared beforehand. So good to hear you are doing great. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteHorst, I am so happy to hear that you are at home and you are doing well. I din't have any doubts that you will be stronger again. All your strength will come back. Just one day at the time. I knew that pain would be gone and it's gone. Just do what doctors tell you to do and you will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI send you my best wishes and a warm hug!!!!!
Glad to see you back. Keep up the good work. I thought I had replied earlier. Probably hit the wrong button.
ReplyDeleteSo glad all went well and prepared yourself before going in. You still have a ways to go but once there I hope you will be skipping thru life again. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you back Horst, and pleased to read that everything is going well. Keep resting and you will be running up those stairs before you know where you are!! xx
ReplyDeleteHorst I can't say enough how glad I am of this update from you. You are doing GREAT! Far better than I had dared to hope for, for you. Indeed preparing makes a big difference and thank goodness you did. Are you eatig well? Is someone there to help?
ReplyDeleteMy mum refused to do any exercises, and just sat and moped until the time for her op arrived. Subsequently she had a lot of trouble with her hips and it took a long time for her to recover. So well done you for being sensible and getting your body fitter prior to your op. Your pathway to well health will be quicker, but then you know that because you can manage the stairs! Take care, though, and God bless. x
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you back blogging again...
ReplyDeleteI wish you a speedy recovery Horst...just take it easy for a while.
Hi Horst so glad you are doing well, as I said this is something I have to look forwardto myself. After reading your post today I am not so worried about it, although everyone is different... I wish you a speedy recovery Sheila.x
ReplyDeleteHi Horst, I'm so glad you posted on my blog and i was able to pick up on your health state. With your positive attitude and the foresight to prepare yourself, it won't be long till your hip problem will be a thing of the past, I am so pleased for you, keep well and here's hoping you'll be up and jiving by Christmas. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering how you made out and how your doing . Good News your coming back so quick. Im so happy to read all of this. I have lost so much faith in the medical profession as they seem to ship people in and out and not care so much. You must of had a very good team to look after you and see to it you were prepared before and after. Keep on going. Dont over do it. Heal , get well , stay rested and so glad your back with us all once again.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Thanks Lisa and everyone for your great interest in my well being. There is a big difference in healthcare if you just go into the Emergency and expect to be treated with kid gloves. They are way to busy there, but they treat you well if the reason you are there is for a good reason. Don't go to the ER if you just have a cold, see your Doctor.
ReplyDeleteThe Hospital kept me in longer because I had lots of stairs at home and no one to help me out. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days and a convalescent hospital for a week (7 days). They first made sure that I was able to handle the stairs very well before the let me go home. They even asked If I would like to go home a few hours sooner, because they needed my bed. I said, no problem. 5 other people went home that same day that I went home.
ReplyDeleteWecome back! I'm glad you're doing well. I worked as a charge nurse on a rehab unit for 11 years. We took care of lots of folks after hip replacements. I was smiling as I read this....I know the routine very well ;)
