Bad weather today

The weather is quite bad today so I figured I will stay in and show you what I had gotten a couple or three weeks ago. I was figuring out how to upgrade to a new camera and found I could get one for no cash money, but through Airmiles points. I was looking about 8 months ago at this camera but didn’t have enough points so I looked again one month ago and found that I had enough and went ahead and got it. I’ve been reading up on how it works and playing with it to use the video feature. I have taken a photo of it to let you see what it looks. Hope everyone is keeping warm. Once the storm is over I will take some photos with the new camera, then post them.

For those of you that want to know what model this is, it is a Canon T3 Camera. Wish I could afford the camera that Adrian has, but this was all I could afford and that will have to do. All my old lenses will work on this camera and that’s why I got it. Oh, I still have my Canon 10D and will keep it, it’s still a very good camera.

  4. Enjoy it, you'll have lots of fun this winter, wrap up warm, be brave, and show us some wintertime shots from your place!!! Lenses that can be used on a new camera, such a bonus. Congrats, too. Greetings from Jean.

    1. I'll try to get some photos this winter but I really don't like to do photography when it real cold outside. not good for the camera. Plastic things tend to shatter when it's real cold out.

    1. Hi Lisa, the photos will be similar only bigger files. Only the camera has changed, not the photographer. :-) Only now I can do some videos. Let's only hope that I (me) the photographer will get better in my old age.;-)

  7. Horst, it looks fine. Does it auto focus in video mode?
I like the centre pinch lens cap. I don't think we have those over here. I think it is called the 600D here and is 18MPixel.

I get my cameras used. It saves a small fortune. I'm not really fussed about all the brand new features but digital is still along way from a mature technology. I'm a long way from being a mature photographer.

Enjoy the camera and try not to drop it.

  8. Hi Adrian. I don't think it does auto focus on video, but that's ok. This one was a great price, free. Got it with airmiles points. My new camera is only 12.2 megapixel, but it's double to my Canon 10D.

  9. Horst, these cameras will work for many years. They are global brands. I have a Nikon and also are also those reliable analog. Indeed, analog, it was the golden era of photography. Itgreater art. A lot of health to you

    1. Hi Peter, so good to hear from you, I have always liked Canon, so that's what I have. Nikon is a good brand as well. I still have my studio camera that is medium format. Medium format analog. Now this is a camera, can't bear to sell it. Good health to you as well.

  10. Looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with your new camera. I have to get a new camera, but I think I shall go for the Panasonic DMC FZ 150k. I have read many reviews and this one seems to tick the boxes. I need it for close work, as in product photography, and to make instructional videos. I think a cheaper camera would have been satisfactory for using on the blog, but I needed to take into account the work the camera will do, so went for the best camera I could afford. I did look at the Canon T3, but I didn't like the thought of having to possibly use lenses, and I don't think that it has an external mike. The Panasonic seems to be adequate as a point and shoot camera, and will do more once one learns how to use it to its best advantage. Could do with your photo knowledge sometimes Horst, especially in regard to your use of photoshop. I can't afford to get that package, so make do with an older version of paintshop.
Hope you are going to shoot some videos, and I look forward to reading about how you get on with the camera.

    1. Hi Vera I saw you mentioned you were looking at a FZ150 I got the FZ200 a few months ago and just love it. It is a little more advanced then the FZ150 in more manual settings. I also found a guy on Youtube that does video instruction on cameras. He has many segments on the FZ200. He got his to make his videos for Youtube as it does have great videos. His channel is Graham Houghton he has great instructional videos that are so easy to follow. I was lost with my new camera till I started watching his videos. Anyway just thought I would pass that information on. Carrie

    2. Thanks Carrie. I was thinking of the FZ200 as I had 'found' Graham Houghton on YT and thought his vids very instructional. I also need to make YT videos, not for fun but for instructional purposes, and did not want a camera which was too techno. Thanks once again for taking the time to give me your advice.

  11. Well a great time of the year to get a new camera. Lots of time to learn all about it. Don't you just love what those points can sometimes buy. I got my ipod with reward points. Can't wait to see what photos you may take.

  14. Hi Tammy, We like in the shadow of the Rocky mountains here in Alberta Canada. So the weather is good one day and the next it is snowing and blowing. Today the temp is +2C and tomorrow the temp will -19C. We are used to this and our saying here is if it is bad weather today then wait a few minutes and it will be better. The winter here last's till April. So you can see that there are quite a few months before the weather warms up for us.

    1. Thank you Carole, haven't taken many pictures yet. The weather here is nice today, but so far it hasn't been to good, to much snow and cold. Supposed to be nice for Christmas, but it can change at a drop of a hat in this part of the world. Eastern Canada has had a terrible Ice storm, but I hope we don't get that here.

  17. Horst, I wish you lots of good photos. Sure the camera is great.
Here it probably will not be cold. In winter, almost no frost. This is weird. I wish you all the best.
