Amaryllis

My Amaryllis is sending out a ton of flower pods what you can see is 5 pods. Most of the time each pod will have 5 flowers, but some of the bulbs are young so they may not have as many. I will keep you posted with photos as they get taller and open up. I have a small jungle of flowers in my home so I have taken a photo to show you a little of it.

  2. Love the light in this photo. We used to have Amaryllis growing all over the garden S.Africa, I miss them. Not a lot of room for indoor plants here at the moment but once we have my office restored...... Diane

  3. Horst, I love flowers. Am with you. Maybe you saw my blog on my balcony full of flowers. A small garden. Now in winter I have a few flowers at home. My father had a lot of Amaryllis. You also like to photograph. This photo is in a great composition and good anti-light. Sincerely, Peter.

    1. Once the flowers are out I have to figure out a way to keep them from falling over. That's what happened last year.

  9. Good to see you're still at it Horst! You asked if I'm still blogging and for now the answer is no, but come spring when we're back at the cabin I may start again. I felt like I wasn't doing a good job in visiting those who commented, because of time issues and it just wasn't fair, so that's one reason I'm taking time off.

Your flowers look so happy and healthy! WTG!

    1. Actually there are the mommy plant and maybe 4 siblings in the same pot, that I must separate in the spring. This morning I counted the pods again and found that there are 6 of them. You can only see 5 in the photo.

    1. Hi Arlene, that's not a Robin, it's a male House Finch. Thanks for the lovely comment.

  15. How differently do we identify our bird species Horst, it's just like a Robin Redbreast that we have here and is on our Christmas cards, nevertheless, as they say 'a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, so it is with birds.

    1. Our Robins are much bigger that this House Finch, and the breast color is more orange. The Robins here Don't have a red head. The color of the finch is more pronounced when they are in breading season, in spring.

  16. Horst, that certainly looks well cared for, and I'll look forward to seeing the flowers. Thanks for your tip about googling painting effect. I did that today, for CS3, which is what I have, and I found more information than I have time to process right now. Hopefully I'll be able to pursue this a little later.

  18. In the Spring I hope to give some of the Amaryllis babies away. They are taking up a lot of room. For those that don't know, I propagated my White Amaryllis with my Red Amaryllis and got lots of little babies, about 21/2 years ago. Now I am slowly transplanting them and they are taking up lots of room. Does anyone in the Edmonton area have any 4 or 5 inch potting pots that you can give me. I have almost run out.
