Going Photo Crazy at Greenland Garden Centre

Hello everyone, yesterday I spent several hours at Greenland Garden Centre just outside of Edmonton. Actually, I was also there the day before, with a friend and her Grandson. The display they had there was just beautiful, so I just had to go back there before they dismantled it. Greenland is open all year round and have a great coffee bar for those that just want to come and relax and take in their beautiful flowers and displays. They sell all kinds of things from riding boots to costume jewelry, to all kinds of nik naks for the home and the garden. One has to visit Greenland to see all the things they have, it is just wonderful to see. If I was wealthy I would have spent thousands but unfortunately I am not. The plants they sell are the best I have seen. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They also have courses for anyone that wants to further their knowledge of Gardening and Horticulture.  I also had a great coffee and chocolate cone that was yummy and went down too quickly. All in all it was a great day. I took tons of photos and I spent several hours working with my photos. I hope they like my review of the centre. If you live in or around Edmonton, Alberta do go visit Greenland Garden Centre before they take the display down, before April 10, you won’t regret it. Now, to show you some photos of my day.

  2. Glad to hear you had such a nice day at the Garden Center, Horst, with your camera. What a beautiful place to take pictures of all the plants, after a long winter. Those goldfish look huge and what a lovely pond.
My favorite photo is the 5th picture with the vase, with flowers, and all the neat lawn ornaments. I can see where one could spend a fortune if one had a fortune. :)
Thank you for sharing these photos, and yes I did enjoy them. You did a great job on the review. If I lived closer I would go there for sure with camera in hand.
Thank you also for stopping by for a visit and your nice comment Horst.
Well you take care and have a nice weekend.
    Dianne :)

  6. Thanks for the great comment, Carole. It was a lot of fun taking the photos. I just love all of the plants they had. If I wasn't so poor, I I would love to have a garden like this.

  8. I love garden centres, they're a great place for photos :) Have even been known to brave getting on the mountain bike and cycling out to them! Lol...always wise to go there without any pennies tho, as you said you could spend a fortune in them. I like them at christmas time too, they're a real wonderland then. Now...if I could just cycle from London to Edmonton...lol everything would be perfect for my Sunday afternoon outing!! :)

  9. Hello Zia Wolf-Sun, what can I say, if you could ride your bike to Edmonton, where I live, needless to say you would be on your bike for a month or 2. You would be in great shape when you got here.;-) I live in Canada, I believe you already know that. Would be nice if you could come to visit, but not in the winter, I don't think you would like our winters.

  11. Loved the photos Horst, very clear and the water shots are just so realistic, especially the last one, well done.
Garden centres are notorious for emptying the pockets of the unwary, so it's just as well you don't have any to spare. Thank you for sharing your day with us.

  12. Helo everyone, well I'm going to toot my horn today, I just wanted you to know that all these photos are hand held and shot between 30th of a second and 60th of a second at f5.6. I had a few that were soft but was lucky that most were nice and sharp. I use a 28 to 105 zoom most of the time.

  17. Horst I LOVE the fountain/pond, I want one in my backyard now! :-) The only problem is that the pond would fill my tiny back yard but then again, is that a bad thing? If I keep my patio the size it is it just might be alright to do something like this. Maybe in a few years.

I've never heard of this greenhouse, I'm going to have to check it out when time permits. Which direction out of the city is it?

    Have a wonderful day!

  18. Hello Darlin, wow, it sounds like the song, anyway, Greenland Garden Centre is East on the Yellowhead, turn on Cloverbar road. It is on the north side of the Yellowhead. You can also go online to read about it. Sherwood Park is south on Cloverbar Raod. "http://www.greenlandgarden.com"

  21. Thanks Horst, if time permits I'd love to check out this greenhouse. I'll make a note and try to tune in to CHED as well on Sundays...maybe not at 8 but a bit later. Sunday's my sleep in day so sometimes I don't roll out of bed until 9ish. :-) Enjoy this beautiful day!

  24. Horst, oh are they delivering it on the 10th to my place? LOL I only wish! Unfortunately I won't have time before then to go and see it, I'm just wrapping up another year of university so life is a wee bit hectic right now. I'll get out there sometime this spring or summer I hope and I'm guessing that they'll have other displays. Have a great night! Thanks for the heads up.

  29. Hi Horst, thanks for all your encouraging comments. I want to buy a new tripod and was wondering if you had any suggestions for me.

  30. Hi Tammy, I don't have a particular tripod in mind, just make sure it is sturdy and light enough to carry around. I have a big old tripod that is very heavy, it was great when I was youger but is a little heavy to carry around now, as I have a hip problem, But I sure do love to use it.

  31. The tripod I use is a professional tripod, I purchased it about 25 to 30 years ago. I used it in the studio and in the field. It has a lot of neet levers (to quick releese the legs) and buttons, and it was also very expensive. It has a shoulder strap for ease of carrying. The tripod is very sturdy and can hold around 200 lbs. or more. I don't know if you can still get this brand any more. Thats why I can't give you a brand name.

  32. Good job Horst! You really got some great pictures. I think I would really have a hard time controlling myself there. So many beautiful plants. Glad you were able to share them with us.

  33. Tammy I use a Velbon tripod and LOVE it... when I use it that is. I'm usually on the run so I don't get as much time to shoot photos as I'd like.

  34. Thanks Darlin, for you input. You'll find that when you use your tripod you have more time to think and compose your images.

  35. No problem Horst, funny I should come to my computer tonight and you're commenting on my response. I just had my new lens on my camera and put it on the tripod just to get a feel for it and I shot a few photos from my patio. I still have to go and see what they look like... practice, practice, practice! :-) Have a great evening Horst. One of these days I'll try to open up my schedule, my crazy making schedule and we can meet for a cuppa coffee and talk cameras, or you can talk and I'll listen and take notes! Maybe after my get away in June, towards the end of June if you're free sometime in there.

  36. Darlin, Anytime you want to go for coffee just let me know, and I will meet you.
