More Images from My Archives

The Image I am displaying today, is of the same area that I took of the beaver pond in my last blog. This image is an award winner that I won, when I was still a Pro Photographer. My old boos and I were going to Elk Island National Park to get some photos that we hoped that would be good enough for the Alberta Professional Photographer Association print show. We got to our location at about 6:30 a.m. and there was a fog happening, the sun was coming up quick so we had to hurry and get our equipment set up. I set my camera up with my longest lens, I have a 250 mm lens for my Mamiya RB 67. It was the perfect choice for my shoot. It was amazing how the lens brought in the scene. The sun just came over the trees to light up the fog on the water, it was magic. I read my light meter and took several images, I then changed where I was sitting and took several more photo’s. I changed position several times as to get different angles. No time to discuss or think about what I was going to do. It is important to realize that the sun moves very quickly and the light you want is gone. As I was getting my shot over the water, I looked to my right and saw the light on the trees around the Beaver lodge, it looked awesome and I quickly took a few photo’s. It took about 30 minutes and the light changed the magic to bland. My boos was not so lucky that day, she only had one lens for her camera. I think it was an 85 mm kens. Great for portraits but not for what we had in mind. Well, enough talk, so here is the image that I won my best in class image. Let me know what you think.

  Sunrise over foggy BeaverPond painting

I put the painterly effect on this Image but It has not done much to the image.

  2. How magical Horst. Timing is everything when it comes to catching the fog with some light on it. You certainly did get this one. I just never am up early enough to see the fog. Only a few times and the moment can be so magical, but the capture it on camera is really special. Just beautiful. Have a wonderfully blessed Christmas. Hugs Carrie

  5. A lovely shot Horst. A well deserved winner.
It can be a real battle sometimes to capture that 'magic' light. It happens all too quickly.

  6. I love the pic and what you'v done with it. Reminds me of my childhood ... the Erlkoenig poem. One almost smell the air coming from landscapes like this. Thanks so much for sharing this, Horst. Have a very festive season as well. Love, cat.

  11. This is the very type of photo I love (aside from flowers) and always am seeking...so I absolutely love it. It is truly beautiful and that is no exaggeration. I prefer it without the paint effect, to be honest.

Are you feeling better and better?

  12. Hi Carole, Thank you.
My left hip is very good now but my right hip is starting to act up. It may even be my lower back that is bothering me now. If it isn't one thing it's another. I hope your doing good as well.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving me such a nice compliment in Wonderland. I'm trying really hard to have a website that has consistant good writing and although I'm keeping Wonderland it's not the site to do this on so I just started a new site just for telling my stories. It's at http://Diaryofamadhoosier.blogspot.com and I hope you will visit and become a Follower there. I may repost a few blogs from Wonderland that I feel should of went there but otherwise it's all going to be what I had hoped for when I did Wonderland. I wrote "The First Snow" for it but posted it on Wonderland because I've been so negative there. Embarrassed look on face....
Have a Merry Christmas and may Santa be good to you! ♥
