November 05 2010

Yesterday, I went and got my shots for the flu and also a shot for pneumonia. The good looking nurse,  said that the flu shot would not be a problem, unless I have an allergy problem.  I have had many flu shots in the past so I knew everything would be ok with that shot. I got a shot in each arm, the pneumonia shot in the left arm and the flu shot in the right arm. Over night, I started to feel my left arm get sore, so every time I turned over I felt my arm, and I turn over a lot at night. This morning, I felt like someone had hit me in the arm, the good looking nurse said that my arm might feel sore with the pneumonia shot, well she was right. I checked my arm in the mirror to see if it may be red around the injection site, and no everything seemed ok. I guess it is just the little war that is going on in my arm, the little white blood cells, attaching the invasion from the injection. Well I know that in a week or two I will be safe from the latest flu’s and pneumonia viruses that are going around. 25 years ago I got every darn flu that was going around, I was sick 3 to 4 times a year and I tell you that was a real drain on me. I basically have been getting the flu shots since they have been available, and since then, I have not had the flu very often. There are many people out there that don’t believe in immunization, well that is up to them, but I sure believe in them. So if you believe in them go get your shots, you will be healthier  for it.

  1. I totally beleive in flu shots. One year about 5 years ago or more, ofr one reason or another, I let it slide - I got flu at a time of crisis at my job - went to work for a few days and thereby pushed it into pneumonia, which i never had before or since. I don't think I ever felt so sick before or since. I could only make it to the sofa - would rest an hour and then on to the kitchen for food, then back to bed. Instead of missing that crucial day or two at work, I messed two full weeks. It made me a believer.

  2. Geez - Did I really make that many typing errors?? That will teach me not to skip 'preview'! I mean 'believe', 'for', 'I' and 'missed'.

  3. I hope your arm feels normal agin now Horst, BTW did you realy mean 'sour' not sore? I've never heard of a 'sour' arm. maybe Canadians are different.
I'm scared witless over needles and it's made me reluctant over getting the jab, I had it once about three years ago but not since, despite getting the nasty swine flu last year. I know I'm foolish, but I take that as an old lady's prerogative. ;-)) Keep well.

  4. Arlene, Your right it is sore, but don't be afraid of a little jab, it could save your life. I deal with needles every day, I don't like it, but I have to do it. I have diabetes and I need to inject every night before bed time and in the morning when I get up. My insulin is the slow release type, and during the day I take Metformin tablets to control my sugar, so a little jab should be no problem once a year. Oh BTW the jab didn't hurt at all.

  5. Thanks for the good advice Horst, but I have a genuine phobia of needles I'll accept it unwillingly if I have to go if there's anything to be investigated or done like tooth filling, but I just can't pluck up the courage to put myself forward. It can't be pleasant for you to go through that rig every day, I just don't know if I could handle it, but I suppose like every other coward, I'd have to. Take care and g'night it's 11pm here yaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwn.

  6. Let me put it this way, Arlene. I'd rather have the jab, then go through 2 weeks of hell, with the flu. I have had pheumonia and it was even worse than having the flu.

  7. I have had both the pneumonia and flu shots and I am good to go too. Here's hoping we all stay well.

  9. My arm was like that when I did get the H1N1 shot. I was sore. I wont be getting any flu shots for as long as I can help it. I have been sick from them each time. Not badly but enough that I think I can fight a flu or cold off. If I had something wrong that I needed to have them then I would . So many do need it and I sure understand.
    Stay warm and well .

  11. Better safe than sorry and get the jabs if you need to. Personally I prefer not to as I tend to shrug coughs and colds off quite easily. Now though I may have to consider having the flu jab as my new grandaughter has no immunity to fight anything that comes her way, so for her sake I will seriously consider having it done.
I really really like the Rememberance Day heading that you have here, very fitting and powerful.

  12. Thanks again Horst , and no you didn't offend me in the least, the problem is mine. I couldn't even have my ears pierced as apart from the initial piercing, I wouldn't be able to put in earrings.,I just don't know how these people can endure all these rings in their tongues and lips, ugh. I agree with Annie on your header. well chosen.

  13. Thanks Anne & Arlene, My Dad actually got me in to the flu shots. Oh and Thanks for the nice comment on my Header. I put the header together from a few different sources, basicly it came from my imagination and what images I could get that reflected Rememberance Day. You don't see the soldier right away. That kind of makes it special.

  18. I hope you're Ok after your fall Horst and it wasn't serious, you must take more care.

  19. Hi Carrie, I think the reason you don't get sick is because of where you live. Way out in nowhere land. ;-) You must get enough sun to get your vitamin D. Yes I'm ok I cleaned the wound real good. and keeping it covered with a very big bandaid. The fall happened so fast I can't even remember how it happened.

  21. Flu shots usually make my arm sore for a day or so too but it's worth it! I missed out on getting mine when the school system gave them out this yr. I'll have to make a trip to WalGreens this wk sometime to get mine.
Love your new header here Horst. :)
