Nothing Special today

I though I would show you a few photos of a Beaver pond from Elk Island National Park, This park was created around the turn of the Century (1900), it was created to conserve the last Plains Bison of North America. The Bison were purchased from the state of Montana, USA. At the time they were not wanted in the States. Now the Park sells them to Nature areas all over the USA and Canada. The Park is cut in half by Highway 16 (goes east west). In the South end of the Park there are Wood Bison, that were kept apart so not to interbreed. The park is covered with many lakes and ponds so is a great habitat for these creatures. These are also great places for water fowl and many other birds of all kinds. This very big park is only 45 kilometers east of Edmonton. Here are some photos for you to see.

 

 

  

January 23 2012 A Beautiful Day

Well, today was a beautiful day, here in Edmonton. I couldn’t believe that it was melting out there, after a week of minus –30C daytime high. I was out and about getting some produce for the fridge. Helped a friend with a lift to his new (for him) truck. That got me thinking of Spring. So I figured I would post an image that would remind us that Spring is not that far away. Well here it is, enjoy.

Found another photo from the Foggy Beaver Pond. The thing with this photo is the Reflections on the water. I put the painterly effect on this photo, just to see if it would look good or not, and I thought it looked very nice. The colors are very interesting in this image, almost pastel. I must say that this shoot that my old Boss and I did was a very successful one, although at the time, I really didn’t look at these images very much, just printed the one image for the APPA print show. Well enough chatter, here is the photo. Let me know if you like it or not.

      

      

More on Window Light Portraiture

Hello everyone, one or more people that have viewed my blog have expressed interest in the window light video's. I have viewed another video of a Master Photographer that I personally met when I was a Pro Photographer. He had an exhibit of his work at one of the Professional Photographers of Alberta Seminars, and I can tell you now that he had some most beautiful works I have ever seen at this seminar. More Archive Images 2012

Not to many things to take photos of this winter, so I figured that I would show you more of my archives. The photo I am showing you today is from the same shoot  as the  Foggy Beaver Pond. This time I thought I would show you a B&W  image rather than color. Black and White photography was what I first learned and had lots of fun with, working in the darkroom, to get it just right. In b&w digital photography we can only work with 255 shades of gray, where as in color we have a million or more shades. Here is the image I am talking about. Hope you like it.

 

  

More Images from My Archives

The Image I am displaying today, is of the same area that I took of the beaver pond in my last blog. This image is an award winner that I won, when I was still a Pro Photographer. My old boos and I were going to Elk Island National Park to get some photos that we hoped that would be good enough for the Alberta Professional Photographer Association print show. We got to our location at about 6:30 a.m. and there was a fog happening, the sun was coming up quick so we had to hurry and get our equipment set up. I set my camera up with my longest lens, I have a 250 mm lens for my Mamiya RB 67. It was the perfect choice for my shoot. It was amazing how the lens brought in the scene. The sun just came over the trees to light up the fog on the water, it was magic. I read my light meter and took several images, I then changed where I was sitting and took several more photo’s. I changed position several times as to get different angles. No time to discuss or think about what I was going to do. It is important to realize that the sun moves very quickly and the light you want is gone. As I was getting my shot over the water, I looked to my right and saw the light on the trees around the Beaver lodge, it looked awesome and I quickly took a few photo’s. It took about 30 minutes and the light changed the magic to bland. My boos was not so lucky that day, she only had one lens for her camera. I think it was an 85 mm kens. Great for portraits but not for what we had in mind. Well, enough talk, so here is the image that I won my best in class image. Let me know what you think.

   

   I put the painterly effect on this Image but It has not done much to the image.

             

Another Scanned Neg from my Archives

Went through some of my archives and found one that I have displayed before on Windows Live Spaces. I thought I would try to do my painterly effect on it, so that’s what I did. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think.
